| World War Two - 70 years later. | | Exactly 70 years ago today the world was changed. This was for many six years of utter terror.. There were 100 million troops involved and at least 61 million lives claimed. For those of us in the British Isles bombs rained down on us night after night. Our lives centered around the bomb shelters built in many of our back yards. On September 1st 1939 Adolf Hitler's troops, under his orders, invaded Poland. This was the beginning of what many now call a racial war. Hitler hated Jews and during the course of the war an estimated 6 million Jews were killed. On September 3rd 1939 Neville Chamberlain, Prime Minister of England requested Germany's withdrawal from Poland. When this did not happen he made the following speech to the citizens of the British Isles. "I am speaking to you tonight from the cabinet room of 10 Downing Street. This morning the British Ambassador in Berlin handed the German Government a final note stating that unless we heard from them by 11 o'clock that they were prepared to withdraw their troops from Poland, a state of war would exist between us. | World War Two Letters | | Hi:Does anyone know if there is a market for World War Two Letters. I have been thinking about going through my dad's letters to my mom and putting them together in a book. I also have the origianl picture of his Medical Corps when he was stationed at Camp Robinson, Arkansas. It is an original picture. I would love to put together a book of his letters if it would be worth it. His handwriting is difficult for me to read so I would only do it if it would be something people would be interested in reading. Too, there would have to be enough adventure in the letters to make it worth a book, also. I wanted to ask others of you what you think. I thank you for your honest feedback. | |

| Japan denies "comfort women" during World War Two once again, this is not right. | | No countries are perfect, I do not know why japan refuses to admit the "comfort women" (forced sex slaves) that were provided to their occupying military forces during the second world war. These womwn were from philippines and korea and maybe other places. Many are still around, their whole lives being ruined, not just during the wartime.
Of course the whole thing is sad and there are many crimes of war, but the innocent young girls of the time should have at least got the respect of the offenders to admit this shameful past. | |

| Hitler's death brought in to doubt | | About a week ago I read an article about Hitler.
Hitler didn't shot himself in his bunker, the old skull fragment believed for many years to be Hitler's has turned out to be the skull of of a woman under 40 years of age[em]w00t[/em]
I always wonder if he really did shot himself in his bunker for all we know this is a mystery I seriously doubt it; after the war was over he would not have lasted a week without his doctor giving him his drugs, wasn't he addicted to some type of drug or something? | Are modern day Jews genetically linked to the Israelites of Biblical times? | | This question remains very controversial especially in light of the ongoing conflict for ownership of land in middle east.My interest though has to do with ethnicity,origin and whatare the criteria that is used to determine who is a jew.
From my limited knowledge, a few issues I would like to have resolved by the learned among us is, after the destruction of the jewish temple back in about 70 ce where most if not all of the records for the then existing Jewish population were destroyed - what was used to determine the legitimacy of modern day jews to being actually descendants of these Jews.
Another issue has to do with the displacement of jewish population in germany due to the persecution during world war two.Once again,the jews have been displaced by another force of destruction,this time to the tune of a over ten million and also involving destruction of records.Is it possible that the formation of the nation of Israel in 1948 to accomodate the fallout from world war two could have attracted other nationalities such as Poles and Czeckoslovakians in search of a home.Also isnt it possible that definition of Jewish has been extended to include simply those who have embraced... | |

| An inspirational movie | | This movie shows the power of the human spirit.This man was facing execution for what he was doing.I don't recall the exact number of people he saved but he spent his own money and risked his life to save over 1,000 people during the war.He was a great man and deserves much praise for all he did.If you have not seen it this movie is a must see,very moving and proves that there is power in some people to do the right thing.Not everyone bows down and goes along with the majority,some know right from wrong.[em]thumbup[/em][em]thumbup[/em][em]thumbup[/em] | |

| Russia wrong again? | | With its invation of tiny, democratic Georgia. To hear the Russians say it Georgia has been committing atrocities on the border for months. Do you think that is believable. Why wouldnt Russia protest or investigate it first if that was true. They have had months. Is this another war over oil you think? | |
