| | | Find the perfect gift for the political fanatics you love, including tom daschle senator bobblehead! | Political debates of every kind. | You Can Tell Tom Daschle to Butt Out!! | | I just signed a petition to tell tom daschle, President Obama's original choice for Secretary of Health and Human services, to stop undermining a pubic health care option as part of health care reform. Below is the message I received after signing the petition with the advice to send the e-mail below to everyone I know. I hope you don't mind that I have copied it here for anyone who is interested in taking action.Subject: Tell tom daschle: Don't undermine a public health care option.Dear Friend, tom daschle was President Obama's pick to be Secretary of Health and Human Services - and with his extensive healh care background, many lauded this as an excellent choice. Who knew he'd sell public health care down the river a few months later?Of course, the nomination went south after it came to light that Daschle had over $100,000 in unpaid taxes on such things as a private car and full-time driver. So Daschle went back to his gig as one of the founders and board members of the Bipartisan Policy Center - a DC think-tank that Daschle founded with Bob Dole and two other former... | |
| | | Tom Daschle Withdraws As Secretary of Health and Human Services | | This news is breaking as I write this so I don't have a link to post. It was just announced on MSNBC that former Senate Majority Leader Tom Daschle has withdrawn his name from the Secretary of Health and Human Services position following the controversy over taxes he had failed to pay until just recently. I don't want to risk misquoting Senator Daschle but he reported said he'd read the editorial in today's New York Times and he realized he'd be a distraction and the issue of health care is too important to have such a distraction. You can read the editorial below:http://content.usatoday.com/communities/theoval/post/2009/02/62303386/1This is obviously huge news and a big blow to the Obama Administration. Personally, I think he did the right thing, in fact the ONLY thing under the circumstances but I also think it's very sad and unfortunate! He made a mistake, a big mistake that shouldn't be excused or justified but I think this is a big loss for all of us. I hope someone can be found who will be as effective as Daschle would have been in this very important post but who has no "baggage" or anything to cause any distractions from the job that must be done. What do you... | |
| | Tom Daschle to be Secretary of Health and Human Services | | It was announced today that President Elect Obama has chosen former Senate Majority Leader Tom Daschle as his Secretary of Health and Human Services. http://politicalticker.blogs.cnn.com/2008/11/19/daschle-the-choice-for-health-and-human-services/He will also be the "White House Health Czar" and will be responsible for writing the health care proposal Obama submits to Congress next year. I have no doubt there will be those who disagree with this choice but I think Daschle is a great person for this job. I've seen him on various TV shows in the past talking about health care and he knows what he's talking about. I actually read on one blog where some people have said former Senator Bill Frist would be a better choice - no doubt because he's a Republican and a doctor - but this is the guy who's against stem cell research and who gave a long-distance diagnosis of Terri Schiavo a few years ago. Any thoughts?

| | President Obama takes responsibility for Daschle | | President Obama did an admirable and upstanding and honorable and noble deed by admitting "I screwed up" in relation to his nomination for Tom Daschle. President Obama said "I've got to own up to my mistake. Ultimately, it's important for this administration to send a message that there aren't two set of sets of rules- you know, one for prominent people and one for ordinary folks who have to pay their taxes."http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/28994296/I like having a president who can admit to wrong and not try to cover it up and leave the White House still unapologetic. He said he needs to send the right message and the greatest lesson is he is a man who can admit his faults. | |
| | Bachmann Urges Constituents Not to Pay Taxes!! | | You can read and hear for yourself what Michele Bachmann said about what people should do if the health care reform bill gets passed in a way she says is illegitimate. Here is an excerpt: At a rally at the Minnesota State Capitol on Saturday, Bachmann declared illegitimate the potential route that House Democrats could take to pass the health care bill. She was specifically railing against a parliamentary tactic by which the House could skip voting on the Senate bill by declaring it passed as part of the reconciliation bill. Bachmann pronounced this to be taxation without representation. "They have just started a revolution -- and they did it," said Bachmann."But mark my words, the American people aren't gonna take this lying down," Bachmann later said. "We aren't gonna play their game, we're not gonna pay their taxes. They want us to pay for this? Because we don't have to. We don't have to. We don't have to follow a bill that isn't law. That's not the American way, and that's not what we're going to do."Bachmann continued. "Because it's one-party rule now in Washington, D.C. Their Chicago tactics, their Chicago friends, twisting Democrats' arms, threatening their own... | |
| | Obama: Let him be judged by his own words.... | | "Judge me by what I say and what I've done. Don't judge me because I've got a funny name. Don't judge me because I'm African-American." So what has he said, what has he done, and what has his race got to do with anything?"Judge me by the people with whom I surround myself."John Holdren, Cass Sunstein, Ezekiel Emanuel, Van Jones, Mark Loyd, Rev. Wright, Hilda Solis, Tom Daschle, Nancy Killefer, Bill Richardson....~~~~~"Judge me by the promises I keep""If your family earns less than $250,000 a year – a quarter million dollars a year – you will not see your taxes increased a single dime. I repeat: not one single dime. (Applause.) Not a dime."Obama, what about the tax you support for people who don't participate in any medical insurance plan? Hey seniors making less than $50,000/yr, how's that tax elimination working for you?For how many days did Obama promise to post bills online before signing them? How many bills has he signed? How many were posted? Hmmmm"I'm going to have all the negotiations around a big table. We'll have doctors and nurses and hospital administrators. Insurance companies, drug companies -- they'll get a seat at the table,... | |
| | Tax Day Is Almost Here Will Democrat Finally Pay Their Taxes? | | Oh yes April 15 is right down the road and if you are like me you owe taxes. As a good citizen I will write out that check, even though government does not deserve one dime of it. I am just wondering if Democrat will pay their taxes? I mean Timothy Geithner, Ron Kirk, Nancy Killefer, Tom Daschle, and Kathleen Sebelius are tax cheats. So just know this Obama believe that you should pay more this April 15 but he surrounds himself with people who do not pay their own. | |
| | The Audacity of Irony | | http://www.aina.org/news/20090217082232.htmWe have seen irony before, when the moralist Jimmy Carter chastised us with sermons about our paranoid, inordinate fear of Communism and our amoral unconcern with human rights, even as the dividends of his policies were the Soviets in Afghanistan and the Ayatollah Khomeini in Iran -- and even greater global misery than before. For the last 24 months a youthful Barack Obama has daily offered unspecified "hope and change" idealism -- all set against the supposed cynical wrongdoing of the tired Bush administration. In the unhinged manner in which his supporters turned a center-right president like George Bush into some sort of sinister reactionary, so too they deified a rookie senator as the long-awaited liberal messiah. How could irony not follow from all that? For the past seven years the United States has seen no repeat of 9/11, although plots were uncovered and threats from radical Islam were leveled in serial fashion. The ability to intercept and hold terrorists overseas, to tap into cell-phone calls abroad, to detain terrorists caught on the field of battle, and to ensure that intelligence agencies freely swapped... | |
| | Come on Democrats, try raising your standards a bit! | | Look, I know most politicians are crooks, but you guys need to open your eyes and stop defending these politicians who are blatantly committing crimes and lying to you. Here are a few examplesI don't think I've seen a single democrat on mylot criticize Tim Geithner, nor have they criticized Obama for selecting a tax cheat to collect our taxes. I have not seen democrats criticize Tom Daschle for owing more taxes than most of us earn over a 3 year period. In fact, I've seen many say how sad it is that he withdrew from consideration. Not one democrat has even mentioned Bill Richardson. Now we have Roland Burris committing perjury regarding the Blagojevich pay-to-play scandal and again, not one democrat here on mylot seems to mind. Finally we have democrats in the House and Senate passing a $1,000,000,000,000.00 bill that is 1,071 pages long without even bothering to read it and yet I have been called "unpatriotic" for not supporting it by a democrat right here on mylot. I've seen democrats here on mylot even criticizing Republicans for not blindly supporting a bill they haven't read.Seriously guys, take a look at yourselves. If republicans had done all this... | |
