| | Lottery ticket signed by George Washington | | I was watching Pawn Shop recently, and they had a lottery ticket signed by George Washington. I guess they wanted to pawn it. I am curious how much a lottery ticket signed by Goerge Washington is worth. If you found out that you owned one of these lottery tickets, would you keep a piece of history to yourself, or would you just pawn it off like it is worth nothing. I have heard of people finding things in thier basements or attics worth millions, and then they take it to businesses like "Antique Road Show" or "Pawn Stars." I would think to keep the lottery ticket, but not for myself. Instead I wouls make sure it is kept in a museum or some other like-place somewhere. I just think it is sad to pawn off such items that may have a lot of intrinsic value to the owner, simply for money. | |
| | | Mt. Vernon, George Washington's Home and Estate | | Since we don't report to work today (Thanksgiving holiday), we decided to go somewhere. We decided we would go and visit Mt. Vernon, a few minutes drive from our place. We have been planning to go there for quite sometime and we're able to go today.
According to the Mt.Vernon Visitor Map, George Washington acquired Mount Vernon in 1754. During the next 45 years, he greatly expanded his home to reflect his status as a Virginia gentleman, personally overseeing every detail of design, construction, and decoration- even when away at war. Vibrant wall colors demonstrate the Washington's wealth and style. The interior has been meticulously restored based on a 1799 inventory taken at the time of Washington's death.
I was indeed a vast estate. We were there at about 10am and we left the place a little after 4 in the afternoon. With that time, we're still not able to see ALL of the grounds but we were able to go to the major ones: the mansion, the gardens, his tomb, slave quarters, (some parts of the) farm and so much more. It was indeed a very good experience. I am able to learn more about George Washington because of this. | |

He wrote lots of things but in these times the most important advise he wrote may well be what he said about political parties. I'll paraphrase:People, if you value your freedom, do not trust a two party system. It is susceptible to corruption domestically and internationally by clever minds. Your freedom will either be compromised or destroyed.[End paraphrase.]It seems to me that our two party system has us over $10 trillion in debt and we are continuing to sink. Assuming 200 million taxpayers that figures out to $50,000 per taxpayer. Has your freedom been compromised as the two party system ran up the debt? | |
