What are some of your favorite "beach reads" (as some seem to call it)? Do you prefer American or British Chick Lit books?For those who are unaware of this genre, it's defined by Wikipedia as being "a term used to denote genre fiction within women's fiction written for and marketed to young women, especially single, working women in their twenties and thirties. The genre sells well, with chick lit titles topping bestseller lists and the creation of imprints devoted entirely to chick lit. It generally deals with the issues of modern women humorously and lightheartedly" (Wiki). A lot of people seem to bash chick lit as being meaningless, and not having any intellectual vigor - but I personally like chick lit, and it's not because I'm illiterate in any way, but because a lot of them are cute and easy to read, and don't require much to think about. I have to say, at one point in my life (in high school) I would read nothing but SERIOUS books - American classics, memoirs, non-fiction political books, etc - and I always hated the idea of these "girly" and "shallow" books - but I have to say, now, they're a good change from the ordinary. | | Time is runnning out.... | | Ever wanted to live in NM or do you live in NM and dream of owning a home here? There is a beautiful historic home here for sale. However, with the financial recession the owners are trying out a unique way to sell their home - they are raffling it off in an Essay Contest. They need about 2800 responses. They have been interviewed in a Santa Fe Newspaper as well as Preservation and Old Houses. I also saw them on Ebay, Seeing this house everywhere I finally decided to enter and wrote an essay.
