| | Political debates of every kind. | Open season on political incumbents | | http://www.cnn.com/2010/POLITICS/05/19/preston.primaries.analysis/Washington (CNN) -- So much for political kingmakers and the machine, at least in Kentucky and Pennsylvania. National and statewide political officials and operatives watched their chosen candidates fall Tuesday in two separate primaries with two different narratives weaved together by the common thread of anti-establishment.Republican-turned-Democratic Sen. Arlen Specter of Pennsylvania saw his 30-year career in the Senate come to an abrupt end at the hands of Rep. Joe Sestak despite being endorsed by President Obama, Vice President Joe Biden, Pennsylvania Gov. Ed Rendell and just about every big-name Democrat. In Kentucky, Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell failed in his attempt to crown Secretary of State Trey Grayson the GOP Senate nominee in the race to succeed retiring Sen. Jim Bunning. Grayson lost in a landslide to Rand Paul, whose campaign was fueled by Tea Party activists.Meanwhile in Arkansas, Sen. Blanche Lincoln failed to beat back a challenge from the liberal wing of the Democratic Party and will face Lt. Gov. Bill Halter again in a primary runoff. Round two takes place June... | |

| | Political books - need some help! | | At what point in your life did you start reading political books?I read a few in 8th grade, which was about.. 5 years ago. Because I was into it at the time. I wrote in a local magazine (usually political stuff), was pretty much DEMOCRATIC all the way (although I prefered not to label myself..As I still do) and I was really interested in historical "anarchy" events, like the Haymarket Riot and the Russian Revolution to name a few, thus I read from authors (and historical figures) like Emma Goldman, Alexander Berkman, and Peter Kroptkin. Later on I started reading Michael Moore (yes.. I don't really want to admit it, but there it is) and after that - after hearing numerous references to "bigger" writers like Noam Chomsky, I decided to check him out. But I don't think I was ready for it, because the one book I checked out from the library totally bored me.
Somewhere along the line, I totally lost it and started reading memoirs (which isn't totally bad... there are some really good, inspiring ones out there!) and even worse - chick lit!Now I'm back at square one. I want to read political nonfiction books, heavy with bias and interpretation. The only thing is that I want to read a... | |

| | Democrate Former Senator John Edwards' ex-mistress appears at federal courthouse | | Former democrat Senator John Edwards and 2008 presidential hopeful running on a platform of family values ex mistress Rielle Hunter will testify before a grand jury today. (WATCH VIDEO Rielle Hunter with infant daughter)Edwards, a former U.S. senator from North Carolina and two-time Democratic presidential candidate, is under investigation to see if campaign funds were illegally paid to Hunter, who served as a videographer on Edwards' 2008 presidential campaign."When you bring someone before the grand jury, you want to lock in their testimony. I think this is a pretty significant step in the investigation," said Kieran Shanahan, a former federal prosecutor."Some of the questions they'll be asking are how much did you get paid, who did she get that money from and the purposes for any money she received," said Joe Sinsheimer, a Democratic political consultant.Edwards' political action committee paid Hunter's firm $100,000 for video production in a four-month span in 2006 and then paid an additional $14,086 on April 1, 2007. At the time, the PAC had only $7,932.95 in cash on hand, according to records filed with the Federal Election Commission. That same... | |
| | Weather Channel Founder: Global Warming ‘Greatest Scam in History’ | | COMMENTS ABOUT GLOBAL WARMING By John Coleman jcoleman@kusi.com it is the greatest scam in history. I am amazed, appalled and highly offended by it. Global Warming; It is a SCAM. Some dastardly scientists with environmental and political motives manipulated long term scientific data back in the late 1990's to create an allusion of rapid global warming. Other scientists of the same environmental wacko type jumped into the circle to support and broaden the "research" to further enhance the totally slanted, bogus global warming claims. Their friends in government steered huge research grants their way to keep the movement going. Soon they claimed to be a consensus. Environmental extremist, notable politicians among them then teamed up with movie, media and other liberal, environmentalist journalists to create this wild "scientific" scenario of the civilization threatening environmental consequences from Global Warming unless we adhere to their radical agenda. Now their ridicules manipulated science has been accepted as fact and become a cornerstone issue for CNN, CBS, NBC, the Democratic Political Party, the Governor of California, school teachers and, in many... | |
| | Will SOMEONE Tell Donna Brazile ... | | The word "gesture" is pronounced "jes ture" and not "guestshure."I'm really getting weary of seeing her on CNN and using the word "guestshure" in error, not once, but MANY times.Lordy! You'd think a public figure like Brazile would know better ... or that SOMEONE on the shows she appears on would say, "Er, Donna, you keep mispronouncing 'jes ture.'"I can accept her not using "ing," preferring to use "in'" for words like ending, singing, talking, etc., but to mispronounce the same word time after time isn't very acceptable. What do you think? Should a person who deals with the public as her life's blood be expected to speak correctly? Never mind George Bush. If he hasn't learned how to speak correctly by this point, a few months more won't really matter.Brazile is a Democratic political strategist who has worked on many Democratic presidential campaigns and as Campaign Manager for Al Gore in 2000.Sampling of one of her videos: http://digg.com/2008_us_elections/Donna_BrazileMemo to self: Many people model themselves after others. | | Can we have a better world!! | | Looking at history we can conclude that we have evolved in our social infrastructure, politically and economically and in other important and not so important aspects of society. From individual life in stone age to feudalism to capitalism and communism to may be a mixed form in present day world. In economic systems, Following scientific and industrial revolution in late 17th century we had capitalism, rewarding more to more deserving individuals but having little for underprivileged (physically, mentally and economically) members of society. Then we had communism, loved more by poor members of society, which rewards on equal basis and doesn’t take care of more deserving members of society, no matter how hard or better they try. Proposed by Marx and applied by Lenin and Stalin as well as Mao Zedong. Stalinist communism is dead but Mao communism with some changes is still thriving. There are other models also but I’ve limited myself to these two models. Similarly the capitalist model proposed by Europe and adopted more by America (present day best example) has changed over time and now it incorporates more socialist views than before. In present day world we only see a... | |
