Political debates of every kind. | An Obama movie?? | | The prolonged Democratic primary race had all the twists and turns of a Hollywood thriller, and at least one A-list actor is ready to portray Barack Obama on the big screen. Can you see Will Smith as Obama? | |
| | 10 movies to see before you die | | First, It's a Wonderful Life becuase I think it's a great story of community solidarity and how important average people are. Second, Angels in America. A story of the AIDS crisis in the early days. You'll cry, you'll get angry, and at times wonder what were you thinking especially to Louis who's a main character and a bit of a schmuck. Third, Torch Song Trilogy. A classic gay movie but if they showed it in high schools I'm sure there would be much less gay bashing. Fourth, Long Time Companion. I can't watch this movie anymore. It gets through about the first three minutes and I start to bawl. For someone who lost way too many friends to the AIDS crisis before it became a serious issue it's just too emotional. However, it's still a very good film. Fifth, The Running Man. I know this sounds like an odd choice from a mostly political movie person, but even though it's very different from the short story which is also good it's a lighthearted look at future politics and media. Sixth, Horton Hears a Who. Doctor Seuss. Need I say more? Seventh, Love and Basketball. Even if you don't like sports, this movie has something for everyone. From romance to sports to sexism. You'll enjoy this... | |
| | The Movie, "War, Inc." - Truth or Fiction? | | I debated on whether to put this in the movies or the politics interest and decided on the latter since it's a very political movie about war profiteering that I think contains more truth than many people may realize despite the hilarious satire. http://www.democracynow.org/2008/5/23/war_inc_john_cusacks_new_filmHas anyone else here seen it? It recently came out on DVD and I watched it and thoroughly enjoyed it. Any thoughts?
